Overview

1979 Chevy Monte Carlo Lowrider

We’re excited to say we’ve added a new lowrider to our lineup, the ready-to-run Monte Carlo and it sits on our new LR260 lowrider chassis. The Monte Carlo is complete with the LR6X 6-channel computer radio, 7.2v 3000mAh NiMH battery and USB charger.

The fully licensed 1979 Chevrolet Monte Carlo body is a highly detailed 3-piece body, with painted side mirrors, clear windows, detailed interior, injection molded chrome plastic details, chrome decals, magnetic body mounts and is LED light ready. The Monte Carlo is available in green or purple. A clear body will also be available for purchase for those of you who want to do your own custom paint job. The Monte Carlo also includes authentic looking whitewall tires mounted on chrome wire spoke wheels with center knockoffs.

The Redcat Monte Carlo is the first to use the new LR260 chassis with a solid rear axle and independent front suspension. One of the most exciting features of the new Monte Carlo is the ability to raise and lower each of the four wheels independently while driving. This is done by using a total of five servos, one for each of the four wheels and one for steering. Another exciting feature of the LR260 chassis is that it will fit hundreds of aftermarket bodies with the included optionally installed body posts.

The Redcat Monte Carlo includes the LR6X six channel 2.4GHz computer radio system that utilizes lowrider style switches. This radio has been fitted specifically for use with RC lowriders and includes many buttons, levers and switches to drive the Monte Carlo, as well as perform realistic looking lowrider tricks. The radio includes individual switches for each of the 4 height adjustment servos, momentary switches for raising either the front or rear to max ride height and momentary buttons for lowering either the front or rear to minimum ride height. The levers and switches are similar to those found on an authentic full-sized hopper control unit. This provides the Monte Carlo driver with a realistic scale simulation of what it’s like to actually operate a full size hydraulically controlled lowrider.

If you haven’t had the experience of driving a Redcat lowrider, now’s the time with the RTR Redcat Monte Carlo.

More about the Lowrider Suspension and How it Works.

Lowrider suspension is a unique feature found in lowrider cars, both real and RC versions. It allows the car to raise or lower its chassis and manipulate the suspension system to perform various tricks and movements. The lowrider suspension is often equipped with hydraulic or pneumatic systems to control the height and movement of the car.

Here’s a more detailed explanation of how the lowrider suspension works:

  1. Hydraulic or Pneumatic System: The lowrider suspension system typically consists of hydraulic or pneumatic components. These systems use fluids (hydraulic) or air (pneumatic) to transfer force and control the movement of the suspension.
  2. Hydraulic System: In a hydraulic lowrider suspension, a hydraulic pump, usually powered by an electric motor, pressurizes hydraulic fluid. This pressurized fluid is then directed to hydraulic cylinders, also known as “juice” or “hop” cylinders, located at each corner of the car’s suspension. These cylinders can extend or retract, adjusting the height of the car’s chassis.
  3. Pneumatic System: In a pneumatic lowrider suspension, an air compressor pressurizes air, which is stored in air reservoirs or airbags. This compressed air is then channeled to air valves connected to pneumatic cylinders or airbags positioned at each corner of the suspension. By inflating or deflating these cylinders or airbags, the height of the chassis can be altered.
  4. Control Mechanism: The lowrider suspension system is controlled by a set of switches, buttons, or a remote-control system. By operating these controls, the user can activate specific hydraulic or pneumatic components to manipulate the suspension. For example, raising or lowering the car’s front, rear, or individual corners can create unique tilting, hopping, or bouncing movements.
  5. Suspension Adjustments: Lowrider suspensions also feature adjustments to fine-tune the car’s performance. These adjustments can include modifying the pressure or flow rate of the hydraulic or pneumatic system, changing the length of the cylinders, or altering the suspension geometry to achieve specific handling characteristics or tricks.
  6. Customization: One of the defining aspects of lowriders, both real and RC versions, is the ability to customize the suspension system. Enthusiasts can modify and upgrade various components to enhance the car’s performance, achieve higher jumps or more precise control, or add additional features such as side-to-side or three-wheel motion.

Speed & Durability

It’s important to note that the lowrider suspension in RC cars is designed to mimic the movements of real lowriders, but it may not provide the same level of complexity or precision as the full-scale counterparts. Nonetheless, it offers a fun and engaging experience for RC enthusiasts interested in replicating the lowrider style.
